CYBER CRIME

                             CYBER   CRIME

When you hear the word “Cyber crime” or “hacker”, what image comes to mind? Is  it a sketchy guy, perhaps wearing a dark hoodie, camped out in a  dark basement  somewhere , typing away furiously ? While that image is in  the public consciousness thanks to movies and TV ,the real picture of cyber crime is much different .

So, The question come that what is “cyber crime”? let see this

Cyber crime is  criminal activity that either targets or uses a computer , a computer network or a networked device. Most ,but  not all cyber crime is committed by cybercriminals or hackers who want to make money .Cyber crime is carried out by individuals or organizations.

Some cyber criminals are organized, use advanced technically skilled. Others are novice hackers .Rarely ,cyber crime aims to damage computers for reasons other than profit .These could be political or personal.

We think that cyber crime is one but it can divide into several type like Email and internet ,Theft of financial or card payment data ,Ransomware attacks( a type of cyberextortion) etc…

I will tell you a  storie of a very big and famous company  which will tell  you that what a cyber crimer can do.

Yahoo, a company which you may have forgotten existed, has been breached multiple times. In recent years, it was revealed Yahoo suffered a data breach in 2013, in which over a billion accounts were hacked! Then in 2014, another 500+ million accounts were compromised. In Yahoo’s case, the issue wasn’t just the breaches themselves, but the fact that they weren’t revealed to the public until 2016. How could they have kept this a secret for so long? This incident, along with many other data breaches, has brought about the practice of immediately notifying customers if their account was exposed.

I will tell you some method how to protect yourself against cyber crime.

Ø Use a full-service internet security suite:-

For instance, Norton Security provides real-time protection against existing and emerging malware including ransomware and viruses, and helps protect your private and financial information when you go online

Ø Use strong passwords:-

Don’t repeat your passwords on different sites, and change your passwords regularly. Make them complex. That means using a combination of at least 10 letters, numbers, and symbols. A password management application can help you to keep your passwords locked down

Ø Keep your software updated:-

This is especially important with your operating systems and internet security software. Cybercriminals frequently use known exploits, or flaws, in your software to gain access to your system. Patching those exploits and flaws can make it less likely that you’ll become a cybercrime target

Ø Manage your social media settings:-

Keep your personal and private information locked downSocial engineering cybercriminals can often get your personal information with just a few data points, so the less you share publicly, the better. For instance, if you post your pet’s name or reveal your mother’s maiden name, you might expose the answers to two common security questions.

Ø Keep up to date on major security breaches:-

If you do business with a merchant or have an account on a website that’s been impacted by a security breach, find out what information the hackers accessed and change your password immediately.
